It has been a thrill to finally work with my dear pal L. Eugene Methe on a collaborative record as a duo. He and I have played together on songs by Refrigerator as well as a couple of solo records of mine. For our album, The Last Chance Lottery, Methe created the music and allowed me to pen the lyrics, sing these songs. I have always dug his solo work jumps from pensive acoustic recordings to albums thick with sonic experimentation, turning song structure heels inside out. He has served the song on a multitude of records by Simon Joyner, Lambchop and The Mountain Goats among others.

Check out the first track and video directed by Callaci that just premiered on Austin Town Hall.

The Last Chance Lottery serves as a loose concept record, both musically and lyrically. For all of its outside leanings, the record does not forsake melody or tunesmithery, but strips much of it bare to then paint over. The album was lovingly mastered by the incredible ear of Al Jones who runs the inspiring Marginal Frequency record label to further tightrope the record. Co-released on Methe & Callaci’s respective labels, Gertrude and Shrimper, the record features cover art and liner notes by Callaci. The first edition Out January 23rd is a strictly limited black vinyl affair available to preorder here and here.
